Bethlehem Food Co-Op Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

At the Bethlehem Food Co-Op, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive environment and to celebrating the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and talents of our entire Bethlehem community. We believe that everyone who enters our doors should feel respected and valued.  We will strive to establish and promote a space where all voices matter, all walks of life are respected, and all people are welcome and feel safe in our store. We further commit to the practice of embracing open and honest feedback and will continue to solicit input as our business grows and establishes itself.  Through intentional, equitable, and thoughtful practices, we aim to contribute to a more inclusive Bethlehem community while ensuring access to a healthy and sustainable environment.

Here’s how we will work to advocate, promote and recognize DEI:

  • Product and Supplier Diversity: Source diverse products, including those from local and minority-owned businesses. Aim for a diverse supplier base.
  • Inclusive Hiring and Training: Implement inclusive hiring practices and provide staff with cultural competence and customer-service training.
  • Accessibility and Affordability: Ensure physical and financial accessibility for a broad range of customers.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with local community groups and leaders. Create community spaces within the store.
  • Inclusive Marketing and Education: Reflect the diversity of our community in all marketing materials, communications, and the channels used to deliver them. Provide educational events and resources that reflect our community’s diversity.
  • Feedback and Transparency: Establish feedback mechanisms for customers and staff. Share the cooperative’s commitment to diversity through transparent policies and messaging.

By focusing on these areas, the Bethlehem Food Co-Op actively promotes and embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion in its store and the Lehigh Valley.
