The accepted story behind this recipe title is that Italian Immigrants wanted to combine the flavors of their new home (America) and the old world, hence the Italian Love Cake. 


1 Box chocolate cake mix or your favorite chocolate cake recipe
2 Lbs. Ricotta Cheese
1 Cup Sugar
4 Eggs
1 Tsp Vanilla
1 SM. Box instant chocolate pudding
1 C. Milk
1 Tub Cool Whip


  1. Prepare your favorite chocolate cake recipe or box mix. Pour into a 9 x 13 pan.
  2. Combine Ricotta Cheese, Sugar, Eggs, and Vanilla. Mix well.
  3. Spoon the ricotta mixture in small dollops of LOVE all over your cake until used up. Smaller dollops give a more marbled effect, while large dollops will give it a less marbled effect. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour. Cheese will sink to the bottom, chocolate cake on top. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
  4. Mix pudding mix with 1 cup cold milk. Fold into the cool whip. Use this to frost the top of the cake. Keep the cake refrigerated.
